The CEMS-award for the best MA-thesis written by a student who signed up for the "Advanced Certificate in Eastern Mediterranean Studies" will be given this year to Mariia Telegina for a thesis on “Ceremonial Representation in Cross-Confessional Diplomacy: the Ottoman Embassy of a Christian Ambassador to Moscow in 1621”. The thesis is an extraordinary achievement as Mariia provides an extremely sophisticated analysis based on unedited archival material, complicated by the complete lack of secondary literature on the topic.
The committee also likes to express an honorable mention to Dunja Milenkovic for her thesis on “Knowledge and Abuse: Two Satires by Theodore Prodromos.”
