Dear all,

I very much regret to inform you that Dr. Anna Christidou, one of CEU’s 20th anniversary post-doctoral fellows, died in a car accident in Athens last Sunday. Anna Christidou joined CEU in September 2011 after finishing her PhD on “Unknown Byzantine Art in the Balkan Area: Art, Power and Patronage in Twelfth to Fourteenth Century Churches in Albania” under the supervision of Dr. Antony Eastmond at the Courtauld Institute of Art/University of London.

We, her colleagues and friends at the Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies (CEMS) who have known her not just as an outstanding scholar, but foremost as an affectionate friend, are devastated and send our condolences to her husband who survives her. Her funeral is today at the Vyronas cemetery in Athens.

We invite everybody who has known Anna to join us for an informal memorial service this Friday, September 20 at 5pm in Room 409 Faculty Tower.

Best regards,

Volker Menze,

on behalf of CEMS
