Ottoman and Turkish Studies Graduate Workshop - I

Ottoman and Turkish Studies Graduate Workshop - I
May 30-31, 2025
Central European University (room B505, Quellenstraße 51, 1100 Vienna)
Vienna has long held a crucial place in the study of Ottoman and Turkish history. As a historical crossroads between the Ottoman and Habsburg worlds, the city has served as a space of interaction, confrontation, and exchange. Over the years, it has been home to groundbreaking scholarship that has shaped the field of Ottoman and Turkish Studies. Today, the Central European University (CEU), along with the University of Vienna, continues this tradition by fostering innovative research and interdisciplinary dialogue in these fields.
The Ottoman and Turkish Studies Graduate Workshop – I aims to bring together emerging scholars who are developing fresh perspectives and employing novel methodologies to explore the Ottoman and Turkish past. The workshop provides a platform for graduate students to engage in critical discussions, receive constructive feedback, and connect with leading scholars in the field. This year’s theme, “New Perspectives on Ottoman and Turkish Studies,” encourages participants to present research that challenges established narratives, incorporates interdisciplinary methods, or introduces underutilized sources.
